When I was invited to join the Rotary Club of Griffin- over two years ago, I was apprehensive at first. I knew no one in Griffin at the time; and I had recently started as the Sales Manager for a small, family owned and operated business that had been a part of the Griffin community for years. I knew it was important to branch out and get to know folks in Griffin. However, I was still uncertain about actually making the move.I was not sure how it would “all come together”.
Needless to say, I have been blessed beyond measure by becoming a member of this club. Not only have I made wonderful friends and outstanding business acquaintances, but I have seen my business grow exponentially, by being associated with some of the finest business and community leaders in the state. The Rotary Club is not only a civic organization here in Griffin, but an internationally known organization that works to serve communities all over the world. From working to eradicate Polio, to reading to young children in local elementary schools, I have seen firsthand how this club’s motto Service above Self holds true. It makes me genuinely proud to be a part of an organization that gives back on a daily basis.
One project that is close to my heart in the Laws of Life Essay project. I have served on this committee for two years volunteering to read and judge essays for this worthy project. Each year local high school students submit essays, which are judged not only locally, but against hundreds of others students from all over the state of Georgia. I appreciate this project as it works to promote literacy, good writing and communication skills. It also encourages kids to “think outside the box”.
I am proud to be a part of this organization and all of the activities and events this club and other Rotary clubs worldwide do to promote civic involvement and community enhancement. I look forward to being a part of this wonderful group for many years to come.
