Growing up in Griffin, I knew Rotary mainly through the programs and events they sponsored, as well as Interact. I knew that they did great things in the community, but not much about the group itself. It took joining the Club to understand how the motto of Service above Self plays out in practice in the day-to-day actions of my fellow Rotarians in Griffin and around the world.
When I became the director of the library system at the beginning of 2015, I was encouraged to join Rotary as one way to meet more people in the community. The fellowship and friendship I enjoy through Rotary has been wonderful, not only as a personal sense of belonging with the Club, but also the place of the library within the community. One of my favorite programs is the giving of dictionaries in the middle schools. I love that Rotary recognizes the importance of literacy among our young students. When we serve the youth of our city and county, we make an investment in our future that I’m excited to see as it grows.
