Rotary is a large part of my Life

Rotary came into my life at a young age with the Rotary Boys Choir - sponsored by the club and directed by Mrs. Gretchen Cummings and accompanied by Mrs. Emily Harris, pianist. I thought it was wonderful that the Rotarians, a great group of respected community and civic leaders, would sponsor us. Later, I enjoyed visiting the club as a Student Rotarian while attending Griffin High.

In 2000 I was invited to join the Rotary Club of Griffin, I was honored with the invitation, so I did. We do great work for our community, state and nationwide through community service, grants, scholarships and international projects. Rotary has been a large part of my life since becoming a member. Our weekly meeting is a highlight of my week. With good programs and fellowship, it is great to go to district conferences and renew friendships.

I was honored in 2008-2009 to be the President of the Rotary Club of Griffin. I attended the Rotary International Convention in Birmingham, England, which was a wonderful experience and education for Cathy and me.

One of the things that has touched my heart as a Rotarian was when Philip Smith was President of the Club. He said he was not going to the International Convention, but wanted to use that money to buy dictionaries for one of the grades - system wide - for the Griffin Spalding School System and give them as a gift to the students to keep, he did and we did.

I am proud to be a Rotarian and member Rotary Club of Griffin.
